Capital shift: Jagan not to wait for SC verdict?

Even the Supreme Court continues to dodge in taking up hearing on the special leave petition filed by the Andhra Pradesh government on the three capitals vis-à-vis Amaravati issue, YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is gearing up to shift to Visakhapatnam within a month.

All these days, the chief minister had been waiting for a positive outcome from the Supreme Court. The hearing has already been deferred several times and the state government made a special request to the Supreme Court to expedite the matter.

The case was originally scheduled to come up for hearing before the bench of Justice K M Joseph and Justice A V Nagarathna on Thursday, but for some strange reason, it was not listed in the cause list of the Supreme Court on the ground that the cases where notices are issued to the respondents and petitioners wouldn’t be taken up on Thursdays and Fridays.

As there is no information from the Supreme Court as to when the case has been posted for hearing, the Jagan Mohan Reddy government is learnt to have decided not to wait for the outcome of the hearing.

Sources said the chief minister had instructed to speed up the works in Visakhapatnam for shifting of administration by March 22, the Ugadi day. First, the CMO would be shifted, followed by the Secretariat and other offices of various heads of departments.

In the meantime, if there is any favourable judgement in the Supreme Court, the government would enact a fresh legislation on the capital and implement the same.

If the verdict continues to get delayed, the administration would be shifted without making any announcement on the capital shift, sources added.
