The statement of YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s statement in the assembly on Tuesday last and the recommendations made by G N Rao committee on decentralisation of administration has triggered unrest among the farmers of Amaravati, the present capital region.
Even as the farmers have been agitating for the last three days, it was the turn of advocates of Andhra Pradesh high court at Amaravati on Saturday to announce their plan of action against the proposal to shift the state high court to Kurnool.
The Andhra Pradesh high court advocates’ association on Saturday issued a notice to chief justice J K Maheshwari stating that they would be resorting to indefinite strike from Monday (December 23) in protest against the proposed shifting of the high court to Kurnool.
The association pointed out that the “so-called expert committee” had not taken into consideration the opinions of the association, or its members who are the main stakeholders, while deciding on making Kurnool as the judicial capital.
They are planning to hold agitations with effect from Monday, till the government withdraws the proposal and comes out with clarity on the high court.
Already, some of the farmers who had given away their lands for Amaravati have filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the high court urging the court to continue Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh and develop it as planned earlier. The State Government and CRDA are made respondents in this PIL.
The court asked the respondents to file an affidavit on this issue and posted the matter to a later date.
