Amaravati to be sole capital of AP?

Amaravati to be sole capital of AP?

Has the state cabinet decided to keep Amaravati as the only capital city of Andhra Pradesh?

Though there will be some clarity after chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy makes a statement in the assembly to this effect, state advocate general Subrahmanyam Sriram told the high court on Monday that Amaravati would be the sole capital of the state.

According to reports in the legal circles, Subrahmanyam told the court that the cabinet had taken a decision to retain Amaravati as the sole capital and withdraw the proposals for three capitals for the state.

It is not exactly known whether the cabinet decided Amaravati as the permanent capital of AP or is it a temporary decision. Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy will make an announcement in the assembly to give clarity.

The State cabinet decided to repeal the AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, and the 2020,and the AP Capital Region Development Authority (Repeal) Bill, 2020.

The two bills had received the Governor's assent back in July 2020 and had paved the way for the State to have three capitals for its needs, executive capital at Visakhapatnam, legislative capital at Amaravati and judicial capital at Kurnool.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court was hearing challenges to the said bills.
