Amaravati: Jagan confident of favourite order from SC

Even as YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy announced shifting of his camp office from Tadepalli to Visakhapatnam from September, the farmers of Amaravati are pinning their hopes on the Supreme Court, which will take up fresh hearing on the capital issue on Tuesday.

The special leave petition filed by the Jagan government challenging the March  22 judgement of the Andhra Pradesh high court declaring Amaravati as the only capital of AP has been listed for hearing before the Supreme Court bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Bela Trivedi on Tuesday.

The bench will also hear the petitions of the Amaravati Parirakshana Samithi and other individuals along with the SLP of the state government.

On March 27, a division bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice KM Joseph and Justice BV Nagaratna said the court will hear the request along with other petitions linked to the issue on July 11.

The bench refused to stay the high court order completely. Justice Joseph retired on June 16.

According to sources, the Jagan government is confident of getting a favourable order from the Supreme Court, as it had made strong defence in favour of three capitals.

The government has already got favourable orders from the apex court on lifting of deadline on the constructions in Amaravati, besides distribution of plots for the poor in Residential Zone-5 (R-5) and construction of houses.

“Going by the comments made by the earlier bench of the Supreme Court, we are confident of getting a favourable verdict,” a source in the government said.

Even otherwise, the Jagan government would file an affidavit in the Supreme Court informing it about shifting of the CM camp office to Visakhapatnam, in case there are signs of the verdict getting delayed.

“This has nothing to do with the judgement and CM has every right to work from whatever place that is convenient to him,” sources said.
