Amanchi quits YSRCP, may join Congress!

Former MLA from Chirala assembly constituency in Prakasam district Amanchi Krishna Mohan on Thursday resigned from the YSR Congress party, after maintaining silence for quite some time.

Krishna Mohan has been sulking ever since YSRCP president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy denied him the party ticket from Chirala and preferred to give the party ticket to Karanam Venkatesh, son of continue sitting MLA Karanam Balaram Krishnamurthy, who defected from the TDP after the 2019 elections.

In a crisp resignation letter to Jagan, Amanchi Krishna Mohan said he had taken the decision to quit the party in the best interest of the people of Chirala and the wishes of his followers in the constituency.

According to sources, Krishna Mohan is likely to join the Congress in a day or two and contest the elections from Chirala on the Congress ticket.

He originally contemplated contesting as an independent, but preferred to have a party tag before jumping into the fray.

Krishna Mohan, who was elected as an MLA from Chirala in 2014, quit the TDP just before the 2019 elections.

He joined the YSRCP and contested on the YSRCP ticket from Chirala but lost to Karanam Balaram, who contested on the TDP ticket.

But with Karanam Balaram joining the YSRCP along with his son Venkatesh later, Krishna Mohan lost his hold on the party activities in Chirala. He remained a figure head, but has been clashing with Balaram group since then.

Krishna Mohan who claims to be a self-made leader first won as an MLA in 2009 on a Congress ticket.

In 2014, he won as an independent but soon shifted his loyalties to the TDP. He was known to be a loyalist to former united Andhra Pradesh chief minister K Rosaiah.

Meanwhile, Krishna Mohan’s brother, Amanchi Swamulu, who had quit the YSRCP long ago and joined the Jana Sena Party, is also upset with Jana Sena. He wanted to contest from Giddalur assembly seat, but it went to the TDP as part of alliance.

As a result, he quit the party post last month, though he is still continuing in the party. He may also join the Congress sooner or later, sources said.
