'Hyper' Review: Neither Hyper-active, Nor Dull!

The success of 'Nenu Sailaja' brought Ram back in league and made us look forward to his forthcoming movies.

Known for his hyper-active energy, Ram has come up with a film titled “Hyper” teaming up with “Kandireega” director. Is this as entertaining as “Kandireega” was or as fresh as “Nenu Sailaja” seemed? Let’s find out.

Story:
Surya (Ram), a B.Tech graduate, is son of government official Narayana Moorthy (Sathya Raj) who works in Greater Vishakapatnam Municipality.

Surya loves only one thing in the world, that is his father and he would not spare anyone if they hurt his father. He also falls in love with a girl (Rashi Khanna) without seeing her just because his father felt that this particular girl would make an ideal daughter-in-law.

A few dramatic events make Surya bond with a goon (Murali) who actually is taking orders from a politician Rajappa (Rao Ramesh) to kidnap or hurt Narayanamurthy in a property issue. What happens when Surya comes to know this?

Artistes’ Performances:
Ram as usual is at his best in entertaining scenes, fights and dances. He has shown maturity in emotional scenes with Sathya Raj. Rashi Khanna is okay as innocent Bhanumathi but she does ample skin show in songs.  

Sathya Raj as Ram’s father is pillar to the story and the senior actor has come up with another good performance.

Rao Ramesh steals the show one more time as the cruel politician Rajappa. Murali Sharma as a gang leader, Prabhas Seenu and Naresh are okay in other roles.

Technical Excellence:
Cinematography by Sameer Reddy and music by Ghibran are adequate enough. Ghibran’s songs are aimed at mass audiences. Dance choreography is good. Art work and production values are at standard level. Abburi Ravi’s dialogues have made some impact in a few scenes.

Drawback:
Cliched screenplay in second half
Loud and lengthy
Routine drama

Analysis:
Like what the promos have suggested, “Hyper” is mix of many recent mass movies with routine styled screenplay. It is like following the template style of screenplay of successful mass movies. 

In “Janatha Garage” there is a powerful GHMC episode. What if the same idea is stretched into a full script, then it would turn out into a “Hyper” movie.

The film is about a son who loves his father so much that he would go to any length for his father and the father is a strict officer who doesn’t give permission to a mall being constructed by a politician. If this episode reminds us “Janatha Garage”, the second half gives us the feeling that it is using the template of “Race Gurram” where hero exposes the politician using TV channels.

But the film is entertaining when the romantic drama between Ram and Rashi Khanna runs and also Ram’s scenes involving with Murali Sharma and Prabhas Seenu are hilarious. Although the romantic track is similar to Trivikram’s “Julayi”, this one also works out.

Despite no novelty, the first half is entertaining and it is racy enough to sit without any irk. But from the pre-climax episodes, the movie turns tedious. Better climax and better entertaining scenes would have changed this film that has good message – that if even one government officer remains honest, a lot of good can happen to the society.

The scenes that work in the film are – the romantic scenes shot between Ram and Rashi Khanna, confrontation scenes between Sathya Raj and Rao Ramesh, Sathya Raj and Shayaji Shinde episode.

The thread of father and son sentiment is also good in the second half but it is not properly used. The towering screen presence of Sathya Raj and Rao Ramesh’s terrific acting have saved many dull scenes. Despite familiar theme and screenplay, these actors have made the scenes effective.

Overall, Hyper is a regular mass movie that is neither quite dismissible nor it is very impressive. Okay movie with entertaining first half.

Bottom-line: Routine Fare!
