Nostalgia: ANR Used The Hands Of K Vishwanath

Veteran actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao shared some of his experiences about the making of his film 'Iddaru Mithrulu'. ANR played dual roles in the film. In a particular scene, ANR is shown as shaking hands with another ANR in the film. The technology in the 60's was not so advanced and everyone wondered how Nageshwara Rao could accomplish this. It was done in such a convincing manner.

ANR explained the shot. He shook hands with K Vishwanath. He wore full sleeves suit and Vishwanath half-sleeves. The photo was then reversed and his picture, up to the hand, was pasted in such a way to appear as if he was shaking hands with himself. The hand seen in the shot actually belongs to K Vishwanath.

Similarly, in the film 'Chaduvukunna Ammayilu' a close up shot of ANR's hand was shown. In reality, the hand belonged to noted musician Saluri Rajeswara Rao. As ANR had some problem in moving his fingers, the director searched for 'suitable hands' that looked like ANR's and found Saluri to shoot the scene. Such was the attention to detail in the olden days, says ANR.
