The Curious Case of Weeping in Cinema Halls

The Curious Case of Weeping in Cinema Halls

Filmmaker Mohit Suri is deeply moved by the overwhelming response to Saiyaara, his latest romantic drama that has turned into a box office phenomenon.

Speaking to PTI, Suri said, “When I go home, I tell my wife to give me two hours because the evening show is coming to an end, and everyone is on the phone and I want to take everyone’s call. I want to ask how they liked the film. How did they feel when they left the cinema while crying?”

Starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, Saiyaara released on July 18 and has grossed ₹300 crore, according to box-office tracker Sacnilk. The film is being hailed as the revival of big-screen romance.

Best known for directing hits like Aashiqui 2 (2013) and Ek Villain (2014), Mohit Suri admitted he hasn’t seen this level of success since his debut, Zeher (2005).

“It still hasn’t sunk in that I’ve delivered one of the biggest hits of my career. What’s truly heartening is how the film has resonated with everyone - youngsters, families, people from all walks of life,” he added.
