Telugus in North America Choose Coolie, Not War 2

In North America, Rajinikanth’s Coolie has taken a commanding lead at the box office on Day 1, grossing $811K so far, including $253K from its Telugu version. In comparison, War 2 has earned $405K, with the Telugu version contributing $101K.

While Coolie opened with sensational advance sales, actual walk-in numbers were lower than anticipated. War 2, on the other hand, had relatively underwhelming advances, but standard ticket pricing and pre-sold passes helped boost its walk-in audience.

The real highlight came from Coolie’s North American premieres, which brought in a staggering $3.04 million across the United States and Canada.

This marks the highest-ever premiere gross for a Tamil film, surpassing the previous record by a wide margin, and ranking among the top four premieres of all time for any Indian movie in the region.

Trade analysts are calling it “The Superstars Massacre”, with Rajinikanth’s dominance setting a benchmark that will be incredibly difficult to beat.
