Telugu Cinema Is Not Showing Courage

Experts have been saying for a long time that the entertainment industry will go the digital way. Independent films in Hollywood are not depending on studios for their theatrical release.

The makers are selling the rights to either Netflix or HBO. Indian cinema has never witnessed the need for digital release before the corona crisis.

It seems the time has come now as the theaters closed due to lockdown. No one is able to predict when the movie exhibition sector will recover from the slump. Many producers are opting for digital release fearing huge losses.

A few Bollywood films are going for OTT release and the dates are already announced. Similarly, a few notable films in Tamil, Kannada industries have announced a digital release date.

Surprisingly, the Telugu Film Industry is not ready for the change. Forget about medium budget films, the filmmakers are not even ready to release 5-6 crore budget films.

The producers who often raise their voice that they are not getting enough number of theaters and small films are crushed are not utilizing the opportunity. It is rare to see quality films in that segment.

At least, medium budget filmmakers should give a try and update to the new trend.
