The Kannada hit “Su from So” won rave reviews and box office success in its home state.
Sensing an opportunity, Mythri Movie Makers quickly brought it to Telugu audiences through a dubbed release. The film’s team even came to Hyderabad for promotions.
However, despite the marketing push and the backing of a top production house, the Telugu version flopped badly.
In four days, it managed only Rs 82 lakh net (Rs 60 lakh share), failing to recover even its dubbing costs.
While the Kannada audience enjoyed its horror-comedy blend, much of the humor was rooted in Karnataka’s local flavor.
As noted by GreatAndhra.com in the review, these jokes didn’t translate well for Telugu viewers, feeling generic and repetitive.
Moreover, similar horror-comedy elements have been overused in Telugu cinema, leaving little novelty for the audience.
Hence, the Telugu version was rejected by local audiences.
