SSMB29: Rajamouli Adopts a Three-Pronged Strategy

S.S. Rajamouli has consistently pushed the boundaries of Indian cinema, revolutionizing its business model with the Baahubali series and pioneering the pan-Indian film trend.

He also raised the bar for visual storytelling, earning global recognition with RRR for its groundbreaking VFX.

However, for his upcoming film SSMB29, Rajamouli is taking a different approach.

While Baahubali relied heavily on the grand Mahishmati set at Ramoji Film City complemented by CGI, and RRR was predominantly shot indoors using green and blue screen setups with limited outdoor sequences, SSMB29 will strike a balance.

This time, Rajamouli is employing a three-pronged strategy — blending elaborate sets, real-world locations, and cutting-edge visual effects in equal measure.

The globe-trotting adventure thriller stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in key roles.

The production recently wrapped a schedule in Odisha, with the next leg set to take place in Kenya. Simultaneously, a massive Rs 50 crore set replicating the ancient city of Kashi is under construction in Hyderabad.

With this balanced method, Rajamouli aims to elevate the cinematic experience while avoiding overreliance on any single storytelling device — marking yet another evolution in his visionary filmmaking journey.
