NBK's Liquor Ad: Legally Right-Morally Wrong

NBK's Liquor Ad: Legally Right-Morally Wrong

Balakrishna’s association with liquor is well known. He has openly spoken about his favorite brand. At several film events, alcohol is reportedly kept near his seat.

He has never hesitated to name his preferred brand — Mansion House, which also sponsors his OTT chat show.

Now, Balakrishna has officially become the face of the brand. A promotional video featuring him has been released, making his long-standing unofficial association a formal endorsement.

This move has sparked criticism on social media.

While some believe celebrities have the right to make personal choices, others argue that after receiving a prestigious civilian honor like the Padma Bhushan, there is a need to act with greater responsibility.

Promoting liquor, especially after such recognition, has not gone down well with many.

Despite the backlash, Balakrishna appears unfazed. As always, he seems to be doing what he believes is right — regardless of public opinion.

Well, there is a common strategy that almost every liquor brand uses to promote itself — they show the ad as if it’s for a packaged drinking water product. The Mansion House ad featuring Balakrishna follows the same method.

The point to note here is that while Balakrishna is legally right, he is morally wrong.
