The Congress government in Telangana, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, which has already faced criticism for allegedly spending crores of rupees on hosting the Miss World contest, has now encountered another major embarrassment after one of the contestants accused the event organizers of treating them “like prostitutes.”
Miss England 2025, Milla Magee (24), withdrew from the beauty pageant being held in Hyderabad and returned to England.
In an interview with The Sun magazine, she said she felt exploited by the organisers and claimed they made her feel “like a prostitute.”
Milla described feeling “uncomfortable” with how contestants were expected to engage in small talk with guests.
“There were two girls assigned to each table of six guests. We were expected to sit with them for the entire evening and entertain them as a thank you. I found that unbelievable. I remember thinking, ‘This is so wrong,’” she said.
She added that she didn’t come to Hyderabad to be used for others' entertainment.
“Miss World is supposed to represent shared values, but it feels outdated and stuck in the past. They made me feel like a prostitute,” she remarked.
She further explained, “At one point, I tried to talk about the causes I support, but it was clear the men at the table weren’t interested. Instead, there was awkward small talk that left me feeling deeply uncomfortable.”
In response, the Miss World Organization issued a statement addressing Milla Magee’s withdrawal from the 72nd Miss World pageant. Julia Morley, chairperson and CEO of Miss World, categorically denied the allegations.
Morley clarified that Milla had formally requested to withdraw at the beginning of the month due to a family emergency involving her mother’s health.
The organization said it had immediately arranged for her safe return to England, prioritizing her family’s well-being.
Following Milla’s withdrawal, first runner-up Miss Charlotte Grant took her place as England’s representative in the pageant.
The Miss World Organization also dismissed the claims published in some British media outlets regarding Milla’s alleged negative experience, calling the reports “completely baseless.”
To support their position, the organization released unedited video clips showing Milla Magee expressing happiness, gratitude, and appreciation for her experience during the early phase of the pageant.
