Mani Ratnam: Don't Judge Without Watching the Film

Veteran director Mani Ratnam has addressed the ongoing criticism surrounding the age gap between Kamal Haasan and Trisha in his upcoming film, Thug Life.

The romantic pairing has sparked debate on social media, but both the filmmaker and the lead actress have dismissed the controversy.

Trisha previously brushed off the criticism, calling it “silly” and not worth discussing.

Echoing her sentiment, Mani Ratnam urged audiences not to jump to conclusions based solely on trailers or promotional material.

“Drawing conclusions from trailers and promos without watching the actual film is silly,” he said. “Only when you watch the film can you truly understand the dynamics between the characters.”

He further emphasized that viewers should focus on the characters being portrayed on screen, rather than the real-life ages of the actors playing them.

Thug Life is scheduled to be released worldwide on 5 June 2025 in standard and IMAX formats.
