'Mahavatar Narasimha', The 1st Animation Hit After 2005

'Mahavatar Narasimha', The 1st Animation Hit After 2005

Mahavatar Narasimha has taken the Indian box office by surprise, becoming the first major animation hit in recent times.

The mythological epic, centered on the fierce avatar of Lord Vishnu, has captivated audiences with its stunning visuals and devotional depth — reviving interest in Indian animated storytelling.

This marks a significant moment for the industry, as India hasn’t seen a major animation hit since Hanuman (2005), which set the benchmark nearly two decades ago. Since then, most animated films struggled to leave an impact commercially or critically.

Even Hanuman could make only a breakeven at box office which was a big thing considering animations. Mahavatar Narasimha breaks that dry spell with a promise of making a bigger collection.

Though released humbly by Hombale in limited number of theatres initially, now the screens are increased considering demand.

Indications are clear that it would run through second weekend as well with gaining word of mouth publicity.

Its success underscores the untapped potential of Indian mythology as a rich source for animation, provided it’s delivered with quality and sincerity.

With this film, animation is no longer just for children; it’s a cinematic experience for everyone, rooted in heritage and powered by emotion.
