Lockdown Review: A Slice Of Life!

Lockdown Review: A Slice Of Life!

The Lift Boy is one of the lesser known crossover films that is currently streaming on Netflix India. It was released in theaters last year, but it had gone unnoticed. Thanks to the OTT platforms, The Lift Boy is finally getting its due.

It is a simple film that tells us the story of a young man Raju (Moin Khan), who doesn’t take life seriously. His father works as a lift operator and his mother works as a housemaid.

In spite of getting the best education, Raju doesn’t focus on clearing his Engineering exams. He is forced to fill in for his father as the lift boy when his father gets hospitalized due to heart attack.

How Raju realizes the dignity of labor, importance of education and how he overcomes his weaknesses to become successful is told in an endearing way.

The story is simple and the production design is minimalistic, but the characters seem very realistic and keeps us glued to the screen in spite of its slow pace and a few shortcomings.

Director Jonathan Augustin uses the lift as a metaphor for ups and downs of life. The film is all about positivity as the director tries to showcase only the positive side of humans irrespective of their financial status.

There are many feel good moments, heart warming scenes and conversations, but things get repetitive as the story moves forward.

The ending is very casual and doesn’t leave the audience satisfied after investing so much in Raju’s future.

The director should have done away with some unnecessary comic sequences and could have added more depth to the climatic episode. Nevertheless,

The Lift Boy is a film that can be watched by both youngsters and parents for the beautiful message it drives home.
