Sekhar Kammula’s Kuberaa, starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna, has lost momentum at the box office within just two weeks of its theatrical release.
While the film struggled to make an impact in the Tamil and Hindi markets, it performed only moderately well in Telugu.
Even in the Telugu states, the performance was underwhelming. In some areas, distributors are expected to be compensated with GST returns by the producers.
The film emerged as a blockbuster only in the USA. Owing to its lukewarm overall performance, the producers have opted for an early OTT release.
As a result, Amazon Prime Video, which holds the digital rights, will premiere the film just four weeks after its theatrical release.
Kuberaa hit theaters on June 20 and is set to begin streaming on July 18 — less than a month later.
Earlier reports had indicated that the film would follow the traditional eight-week theatrical window before heading to OTT, but that plan has now been dropped.
In today’s fast-changing landscape, producers are prioritizing quick digital releases to recover investments.
With Kuberaa behind him, Sekhar Kammula is expected to shift focus to his next project.
