'Kerala Story 2': Why Turned Out To Be A Disaster

'Kerala Story 2': Why Turned Out To Be A Disaster

Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond, which hit theatres amid intense media attention, court cases and temporary stays before its eventual release, has failed to live up to expectations at the box office.

The first instalment, released in 2023, worked largely because of its novelty and the curiosity surrounding its subject.

This time, however, the sequel’s reliance on similar dramatic episodes appears to have diluted the impact, with audiences showing far less enthusiasm for a repeated narrative pattern.

The film’s performance reflects this waning interest.

In its first four days, it has managed to collect only around Rs 13 crore net, a figure that can be termed disappointing given the scale of the pre-release hype and the franchise’s recall value.

Trade observers note that the numbers are far below what was anticipated for a follow-up to a previously successful film, indicating that strong promotions alone cannot guarantee footfalls.

Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amritlal Shah, the film was released on February 27.

The underwhelming response underlines the challenge sequels face when they fail to offer a fresh perspective or evolve beyond the core idea.
