Even as Ramoji Film City, an international-standard film city on the outskirts of Hyderabad, is struggling to come out of the red, Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has proposed to build yet another film city closer to RFC.
KCR, who held a meeting with top film stars Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna at his camp office in the evening, expressed his desire to build a film city of international standards on 1,500 to 2,000 acres land on Hyderabad outskirts.
He suggested that a delegation of prominent film personalities and officials to visit the film city in Bulgaria and prepare proposals and plans for the Film City of Hyderabad.
“There are ample opportunities to develop and expand the film industry in the state. Hyderabad is a cosmopolitan city. People from different parts of the country and different mother tongues have settled here. The city has the ability to offer shelter to anyone. Wonderful facilities can be created here for the film shootings and all other film making activities to take place comfortably,” KCR said.
“At the proposed film city, plots will be allocated to the film production companies to set up studios with state-of-the-art technologies and to suit to needs of the future. Provision will be created at the proposed film city for an airstrip. All other infrastructure facilities will be provided,” the CM elaborated.
Meanwhile, the chief minister also announced that film shootings and cinema theatres could re-open now as the unlock process had begun.
He said about 10 lakh people in Hyderabad are directly or indirectly dependent on the film industry. Due to cancellation of shootings and closure of theatres in view of Coronavirus pandemic, most of them suffered loss of livelihood.
"Corona recovery rate in the state is at 91.88 per cent. Resume shootings observing the Covid guidelines. Open theatres too,” KCR said and hoped that the families would come out of the financial stress.
