YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has been striving to reform the government schools in the state. His mission has changed the plight of several government schools with new facilities and attracting features. The teachers were also in abundance who can really serve the requirement of any number of students.
Many have thought that it needs a lot of marketing from the government side to attract the parents in order to pull their faith in government schools. But the Corona crisis has conspired something in favor of govt schools now.
Here is the situation. Majority of parents who are educating their children in private schools have not paid any fee for 6 months ever since the beginning of lockdown. Now, to continue in the same school, the private managements are demanding the pending fee. It will surely be a bigger burden for any parent.
So, they are now in search of alternatives. Though some schools are thinking to waive the fee of previous months to retain their students, the parents are still not ready to spend thousands of fees on a monthly basis. Their other commitments in the post lockdown period are pushing them to think of alternatives for their children's education.
Under these circumstances, the government schools in Andhra Pradesh are attracting the parents. The schools are looking far better than before and are equipped with facilities. So, the parents are lining up at the government schools to admit their children. That way, they need not spend anything on their children's education for years down the line.
There is another advantage for parents here. Till class 7th, any student can walk out from his school without any TC (Transfer Certificate) and join the school of his choice. So, the TC is a need for the students of class 8,9 and 10. So, only the parents of such students are bothered and prioritized their earnings to pay school fees as the private management demands a pending fee to give TC. But the rest are moving to government schools.
The situation is almost similar in entire India but the parents in other states are not taking quick decisions to shift their children to government schools owing to the poor facilities. But in Andhra Pradesh, the parents are not thinking twice. Their vote is for government schools. This proves to be the biggest achievement of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
