While Saiyaara is being praised for its emotional depth, performances and music, many viewers have raised questions about its originality.
Directed by Mohit Suri and starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the romantic drama closely resembles the plot of the 2004 South Korean film A Moment to Remember.
The Korean original, directed by John H Lee, follows a woman diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s and the emotional toll it takes on her relationship, an arc similar to Saiyaara’s storyline.
Netizens have taken to social media pointing out scene-by-scene similarities, with some labeling Saiyaara as an unofficial remake.
One user wrote, “So #SAIYAARA is a copy of this KOREAN FILM!” while another added, “Please give some credit to the original.” Some also compared the film's themes to Aashiqui 2, another emotional romantic drama.
However, not everyone agrees. A few fans defended Saiyaara, saying that while it shares a premise, its treatment is unique to Indian audiences. They also noted that A Moment to Remember itself was based on a Japanese drama.
As of now, the filmmakers have not responded to the remake controversy or confirmed if it’s officially adapted.
