Param Sundari, the much-talked-about rom-com starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, promised glamour, romance and chartbuster songs. But at the box office, the film’s first day looked anything but “sundar.”
Despite a solo release and heavy pre-release buzz, early estimates peg day-one earnings at just ₹7.25 crore - far below industry predictions.
Theatres looked patchy on Friday. Occupancy hovered at a weak 12.92% overall: mornings dragged at 8.19%, afternoons picked up slightly to 11.45%, evenings climbed to 12.27%, and only the night shows saw a respectable 19.77% turnout. Still, nowhere near blockbuster territory.
Directed as a feel-good intercultural romance between a Delhi boy and a Kerala girl, Param Sundari banks on the fresh pairing of Sidharth and Janhvi, with Rajeev Khandelwal and Aakash Dahiya in supporting roles.
The music, especially Pardesiya, caught on early — but catchy songs alone can’t save ticket counters.
Now, the film’s fate rests on word of mouth. If the weekend doesn’t deliver a major surge, Param Sundari risks becoming another Bollywood beauty with box office scars.
