Film Promotions: Story Behind Free Ticket Distribution

Film Promotions: Story Behind Free Ticket Distribution

Making small films is a big challenge. It is very hard to pull the attention of the target audience. Audio launches, pre-release events, or interviews are often not enough to make people buy tickets.

So some small producers have found a new way. What they do is distribute free tickets to audiences through social media influencers and the Twitter handles of some film journalists.

The ultimate idea of the producer is to ensure that shows do not get cancelled due to zero ticket sales. If there is at least some audience in theatres and the film works, the public talk will spread through them and gradually build traction.

For social media influencers and film journalists, giving away free tickets helps increase their followers.

For audiences, the advantage is watching a film for free.

So it becomes a win-win-win situation for everyone.

However, this strategy worked well only for the film "The Little Hearts." Even though it was applied to "Hey Balawant," it did not work much. Now this formula is being implemented for "Sampradayini Suppini Suddapooasani."

All said and done, it is the content that finally speaks. But promotions still need to be done, and makers feel this is a better way to try something new.
