It is now official that Coolie has turned out to be a flop at the box office. The film, which carried massive hype before release, was even expected by many to challenge the Rs 1000 crore milestone.
However, the collections tell a different story. After 12 days, Coolie has earned Rs 259.97 crore net across all languages in India.
With GST adjustments, its gross domestic total stands at Rs 306.64 crore, a figure far short of the expectations surrounding it and also far from breakeven.
Interestingly, despite its struggles, the film came very close to entering the list of Kollywood’s top four highest grossing films of all time, if it surpasses Ponniyan Selvan which is just Rs 6 Cr away.
Overseas, however, the performance was disappointing, especially in North America, where distributors reportedly lost close to 1 million dollars. This dent further cemented its flop status globally.
Nevertheless, Rajinikanth continues to enjoy dominance in Tamil cinema history. His previous films 2.0 and Jailer still hold the first and second positions among the industry’s biggest grossers, keeping his legacy intact.
