Censor Board Confusion: 'UA' For Akhanda 2 - 'A' For Mowgli

Censor Board Confusion: 'UA' For Akhanda 2 - 'A' For Mowgli

Many people no longer understand how censor boards function or what factors guide certification decisions.

Akhanda 2 features extreme violence, including repeated beheadings, yet received a UA16+ certificate.

In contrast, Mowgli, which contains no comparable violent scenes, was given an A certificate.

Such contradictory classifications raise serious doubts about consistency, logic and fairness in the certification process.

The irony is that theatres rarely enforce these age restrictions. Children below sixteen are freely allowed into Akhanda 2, just as audiences enter Mowgli without checks.

When rules are not implemented on the ground, the purpose of certification itself becomes meaningless. A system that exists only on paper fails both viewers and filmmakers.

This situation is steadily eroding public faith in the censor board and in the authorities meant to enforce its decisions.

When films with minimal violence are restricted while graphic content is diluted, credibility suffers.

Unless standards are clarified and rules strictly enforced, trust in the entire regulatory system will continue to decline.

This failure damages institutional legitimacy and audience confidence.
