Manchu Vishnu went all out promoting his ambitious mythological action drama “Kannappa.”
Featuring major stars like Prabhas, Mohanlal, and Akshay Kumar, the film attracted attention from Bollywood and other regional industries, generating significant pre-release hype.
However, despite the buzz, Kannappa underperformed at the box office, ending its theatrical run with just over ₹30 crore.
Now, there is speculation that Vishnu is planning another mythological project. While Kannappa was a financial setback, it helped him gain recognition beyond the Telugu states.
This increased visibility has strengthened his personal brand, even if the film didn't succeed commercially.
Still, launching another mythological film won’t be easy.
For Kannappa, Prabhas and Mohanlal reportedly worked without charging a fee, out of respect for Mohan Babu, while Akshay Kumar participated as a goodwill gesture, albeit for a substantial remuneration.
Replicating such star support in his next venture will be extremely challenging.
Without a similar level of star power or goodwill, even with financial backing from his other business interests, generating the same attention and credibility for another mythological film will be a major hurdle.
