Many films released this week across languages. Bollywood saw the arrival of Baaghi 4 and The Bengal Files.
Kollywood welcomed Madharaasi, while Tollywood witnessed the release of Ghaati and Little Hearts. On top of these, Hollywood’s The Conjuring: Last Rites also hit screens.
Coming to the Telugu box office, the clear winner is Little Hearts when measured by return on investment.
The film received a thumping response from its target audience, the youth. On Day 1, it collected Rs 1.7 crore gross, and on Day 2 it jumped to Rs 3 crore gross. Considering the modest budget, this is proving to be a sure-shot success.
On the other hand, Ghaati by director Krish Jagarlamudi has turned out to be a disaster. The openings were poor, with just Rs 2.36 crore gross for this Anushka starrer. Day 2 saw a steep fall, closing at around Rs 1.8 crore gross. With negative word of mouth, the film has been declared a flop.
Madharaasi, directed by A R Murugadoss and starring Sivakarthikeyan, released in Telugu as a dubbed version. It opened to a dull Rs 1.8 crore gross, and Day 2 saw a further drop. The word of mouth is not encouraging, making recovery doubtful. Even in Tamil, the film is witnessing a decline, and it remains to be seen if Monday collections can save it.
Bollywood’s Baaghi 4, starring Tiger Shroff, has failed to live up to expectations. With poor collections and no signs of recovery, trade experts are declaring this the end of the franchise.
Similarly, The Bengal Files by Vivek Agnihotri has met with disastrous response. The film opened weak and showed a significant drop on Day 2.
Hollywood’s The Conjuring: Last Rites is performing strongly in English, though its Telugu version is very dull, earning just Rs 47 lakh gross on Day 1 and nearly the same on Day 2. However, across languages, the film is doing extremely well. Within India, it grossed Rs 42 crore in just two days, making it a phenomenal success.
