April BO: Not Even Vakeel Saab Cheered Up

In March, we had witnessed several successes, but the trend didn’t last for long. April saw the rise of the deadly second wave of COVID bringing the entire theatrical business to the halt.

If not for the second wave, we would have seen the ticket window filling the money with the new releases like “Love Story”, “Tuck Jagadish”, “Thalaivi” and “Virata Parva”.

In April, altogether 14 movies had seen the theatrical release and the notable big release is Pawan Kalyan starrer “Vakeel Saab”.

The month began with multiple releases on its first week. They are Nagarjuna starrer action drama “Wild Dog”, and two dubbed movies – Karnthi’s “Sulthan” and “Yuvarathna”. None of them clicked at the box-office though Nagarjuna’s movie won crucial acclaim.

Amidst huge hype, Pawan Kalyan’s “Vakeel Saab” hit the screens. It was the first release from Pawan Kalyan in three years. Hence, the expectations were high. It was screened in almost all the theaters. But the film could not sustain after the initial four days of a good opening, partly due to the COVID-19 second wave. Also, it is not an out-and-out commercial movie that his fans wanted to see. It was a remake of the Bollywood content-oriented movie “Pink”.

The film’s overall collections still are a secret as distributors were told not to reveal.

A week later, Rajasekhar starrer “RGV Deyyam”, “Tempt Raju”, “Check Mate”, “99 Songs, “Chitti Babu”, and “Itlu Anjali” had tested their luck at the box office. As expected, none of them had got any collection.

In the fourth week of April, “Shukra” and “Kathanika” hit the screens. It was the same grim story at the theaters.  The last day of the month also saw another small movie testing its luck to no avail.
