Just two hours before the premiere shows in North America, the production house 14 Reels Plus announced the postponement of Akhanda 2, shocking the USA distributor who had already completed all arrangements for grand premieres.
Following the delay, the allocated screens were immediately reassigned to Hollywood titles.
The producers are now considering two alternate release dates: December 12 or December 25. However, Avatar 3 is releasing on December 19 in both India and the USA in a massive way.
Competing with such a big release and securing screens in North America will be extremely challenging.
Due to the uncertainty, the USA distributor is reportedly demanding a refund of Rs 11 crore.
The production house is already burdened with long-pending financial dues and is said to be in no position to return such a large amount right now.
Even if Akhanda 2 manages to arrive next week or later, the missed momentum and lost premiere hype in North America are causing serious concern for the distributor.
