Actor Picks YouTube Over OTT for Mass Reach

Actor Picks YouTube Over OTT for Mass Reach

Aamir Khan is set to release his latest film Sitaare Zameen Par directly on YouTube Movies, bypassing traditional OTT platforms.

The sports drama will be available on demand starting August 1 at an affordable price of ₹100 in India. It will also launch in 38 other countries, including the US, UK, and Australia, with region-specific pricing.

The film will include subtitles and dubbed versions in multiple languages to ensure wider reach.

At a press conference in Mumbai on Tuesday, Aamir explained his decision to avoid major streaming platforms.

“If a family of four watches the film for ₹100, that’s just ₹25 per person. You could even invite your neighbors,” he said. “When I was young, we used to watch movies with our neighbors. Watch it with eight people — it gets cheaper. Show it to the whole village, and it’s ₹1 per person. The idea is to make it accessible and affordable for everyone.”

He further stated that he was never fond of the traditional OTT model. “I never liked it or fully understood it,” Aamir said. “That’s why I came up with this new distribution model. I hope people will appreciate it. Cinema has the power to soar, and I believe it will soar again.”

Sitaare Zameen Par is a spiritual sequel to Aamir’s 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par. Directed by RS Prasanna, the new film features Aamir as a basketball coach training a group of neurodivergent children.

It was released in theaters on June 20 and has already grossed over ₹250 crore worldwide.
