The trailer for Kamal Haasan’s highly anticipated film Thug Life, released on Saturday, has stirred mixed reactions online.
While many fans celebrated the reunion of Haasan with acclaimed director Mani Ratnam, a section of the internet has expressed discomfort over a few romantic and intimate scenes involving the 70-year-old actor and significantly younger female co-stars.
In particular, a Reddit post spotlighting scenes of Kamal sharing romantic moments with Trisha Krishnan and a lip-lock with actor Abhirami triggered a heated debate.
The user captioned it, “Noo god please no,” drawing attention to the 30-year age gap — Haasan is 70, while Trisha and Abhirami are both 42.
Several users chimed in with criticism and sarcasm. “Trisha is just 3 years older than Shruti Haasan, btw,” one user noted.
Another commented, “Only 30 years apart. Practically soulmates!” Others questioned the necessity of such scenes, especially given the significant age difference.
Thug Life tells the story of a gangster who mentors a young boy, played by Silambarasan, who later grows to become his trusted ally.
Spanning several decades, the trailer hints at a gritty, emotional gangster saga packed with action and drama.
The ensemble cast includes Trisha Krishnan, Sanya Malhotra, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, and Vaiyapuri.
Thug Life is Kamal Haasan’s first collaboration with Mani Ratnam since their iconic 1987 film Nayakan. The film is set to hit theatres on June 5.
