US: Indian Student, 23, Kills Grandparents and Uncle

A 23-year-old Indian student, Om Brahmbhatt, has been charged with murder for fatally shooting his grandparents and uncle in their New Jersey residence.

The incident occurred at a condo in Middlesex County, leading to three counts of first-degree murder against Om. The South Plainfield Police Department responded to a report of gunfire at the South Plainfield home around 9 am on Monday.

The victims, identified as Dilipkumar Brahmbhatt (72) and Bindu Brahmbhatt (72), were pronounced dead at the scene. Yashkumar Brahmbhatt (38) was transported to a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead there.

While the authorities did not immediately disclose the relationship between the suspect and the victims or any motive for the shooting, subsequent information identified the deceased as Om Brahmbhatt's maternal grandparents and uncle.

Om Brahmbhatt, who was present at the residence when authorities arrived, lived with the victims. He has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. However, the motive behind the shootings remains unknown.

According to sources close to the Brahmbhatt family in Gujarat's Anand District, Om had moved to the US approximately 18 months ago at the insistence of his maternal grandfather, aiming to pursue further studies.
