We often say “India is shining” and “India is rocking” because our economy is growing fast. India is now the fourth-largest economy in the world. But when we look at our roads and buildings, the reality is very different.
Except National Highways in the South, the highways in Northern regions and even many state highways are still in bad shape.
Many roads are full of potholes, uneven surfaces or poor repairs. Even new roads get washed away after one rain or flood.
Though the authorities may say that such things seldom happen, due to huge coverage of one single new road that gets washed out in flood, it gives an impression that entire India is facing the same situation. So there can be no excuse. Quality check should be the highest priority.
The same problem can be seen in our railway stations. Many new stations are being built with modern designs, but the quality of work is not good.
After just one rain, water leaks and poor construction are clearly visible. This shows that quality checks are not being done properly.
Same is the case with Drainage Systems. Indian roads are very poor in drainage systems. There is no city left where the people are not suffering from drainage issues.
Even the flood water stagnation is major issue and kept the cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru to shame.
If India wants to improve its image around the world, we must build better roads and drainage systems. Roads should be strong, smooth and long-lasting. Every city and town needs clean, well-built roads.
Also, with traffic increasing every day, big cities must have more express flyovers to handle the growing number of vehicles.
As face is the index of the mind, the roads and infrastructure are the index of a nation's image.
Unless we focus on quality and keep strict control on construction standards, India’s image will look good only on paper.
A truly shining India must have strong, reliable and beautiful infrastructure that we can all be proud of.
