Bangalore's 'Sex Swami' Nithyananda was arrested a long way from home on Wednesday, in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district.
The arrest was made by the Bangalore Police, with assistance from their counterparts in Himachal. Nithyananda will now be taken to court in Solan or Simla for transit remand.
The controversy around the Swami erupted early in March, over an alleged sex scandal. The Swami was allegedly filmed in a room with a woman in Tamil Nadu. People attacked the ashram - even as his followers said the video was a defamatory conspiracy.
Nithyananda's Ashram is about 40 kilometres outside Bangalore. It is said he has a following of about 2 million around the world.
