Satyamites quizzed by management

Hyderabad: Satyam is going all out with innovative ideas to keep its employees engaged as well as updated with the latest developments within the company. After the in-house newsletter NewsToday, Satyam came up with a ‘Spirit of Satyam Quiz’ for its BPO associates in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and onsite locations. The multiple-choice online quiz which aims to keep all the associates “abreast of the latest happenings” in Satyam was circulated to employees of Satyam’s BPO arm on Wednesday. What’s more the quiz was touted as a contest with a promise of certificates to the winners. Perhaps only certificates can be expected at a time when cost cutting is the order of the day.

Labelled ‘I am proud’, the link to the quiz reveals a set of 10 to 15 questions on the new CEO, the new board members and the recent developments in the company. The objective behind the entire exercise seems to be to not only apprise the employees of the happenings in the firm but also pep up their spirits. “The management basically wants to spread awareness and understand how much the associates, especially at the agent level, know about the developments in the firm. Something new is happening everyday and this is their way of spreading correct news, otherwise there are so many rumours,” says an associate who had taken the quiz. The questions were fairly simple and anyone who is updated regarding the company should be able to answer the questions, he adds.

The quiz was sent to all the Satyam BPO employees by the marketing team via its internal communication system. “This latest exercise seems to be a good idea; even though it is not compulsory, most of my colleagues are keen to see what it is all about and have participated in it,” says another associate.

For the employees, the quiz is not only about competing for a certificate, they say that this way of communicating with the employees and equipping them with the latest news, is helping them get a fair idea of where the company is headed. A Satyam BPO spokesperson however refused to comment on the initiave, saying that it is an “internal matter”.

Earlier, Satyam Computers had started an in-house newsletter, NewsToday, ostensibly in order to inform the staff about the developments in the company and to equip them with facts to counter media rumours and provide correct and full clarifications of developments. Besides, a number of videos of Satyam press conferences and meetings are run in the lobbies to disseminate information and keep the confused and worried employees motivated.
