Recently, there was an article in Greatandhra that was supposedly a spotlight on Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan’s efforts as the MLA of Kukatpally.
We are the Lok Satta team of volunteers for Kukatpally and would like to thank Greatandhra for allowing us to respond.
While we appreciate the author’s initiative to put a spotlight on Kukatpally development, the article was lacking details, specifics, and statistics.
Under the leadership of JP, a Kukatpally Development Team works 7 days a week to solve the problems of the constituency. All the work done by this team is updated at the website kukatpallynow.com. That site also has phone numbers that Kukatpally citizens can call any day to give a complaint or voice concerns.
In the last three years with JP’s efforts, more than 750 crores were spent in the constituency in the areas of traffic, education, health, water, employment, anti-corruption and women's welfare.
About 20,000 people in the constituency have directly benefited from JP's work including the more than 2000 people who now have jobs because of the job melas we conducted. Our focus has been on all-round development and not on just roads and buildings. All the work we do is done with zero political corruption and without hungama. Slowly, but surely, our efforts are bearing fruit and the results are being enjoyed by the constituents.
Important achievements so far:
Water – Water supply has been increased from 8 million gallons to 14 million gallons. JP is fighting with the government to bring Krishna 3rd phase project to Hyderabad. More than 10 crores have been spent on pipelines, water tanks, and sumps to benefit more than 1.5 lakh people. Completed water tanks in Hasmathpet and Moosapet that were pending from 2005.
Traffic/Roads and Drainage – After becoming an MLA, JP has been instrumental in sanctioning more than Rs 250 crores including laying more than 200 cc roads to improve traffic conditions in Kukatpally. Works related to flyovers and widening are being completed. Constructed two sewage treatment plants with 25 crores and completed nala widening and bankings with 30 crores
Schools/Education – JP worked on three fronts to improve government schools – infrastructure (75 new classrooms, and 74 new toilets), staff, and quality of education (tuitions for students). Because of JP’s efforts, a software company came forward and constructed a school in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar.
Employment/Jobs– More than 2,000 people got jobs through the Kukatpally Lok Satta office. We regularly conduct job melas, job trainings, and self-employment trainings like candle making and jute-bag making.
Health – JP is working with NGOs on health camps, and on conducting free clinics for the poor. More than 1200 people benefitted because of these efforts. Developed thirty public parks and completed twenty community halls.
Liquor Belt Shops - After JP was elected, 13 belt shops are closed in Moosapet.
Environment - More than 15,000 plant saplings were distributed to school children and we are currently working on tree planting in 5 colonies.
JP tours the various areas of Kukatpally an average of 2-3 times a week to monitor the ongoing projects and has made more than 400 trips so far. Rest of the time, he works on national-level issues like the Lok Pal Bill. He does not run any businesses and works for the people 24/7.
To get anything done in the area of infrastructure, it takes coordination among several agencies and departments like GHMC, State Government, HMDA and the Central Railway Department. There is a lot of confusion and not much cooperation among these units.
A simple example - to get the stalled HITEC City Flyover work moving, the effort we have spent in the last 3 years is equivalent to what an advanced country would spend on building a medium-size airport. To get a design file approved by a department, JP had to speak with officials more than 40 times. We once again thank Greatandhra for giving us a chance to respond.
