Purandeswari’s Day declared by the Mayor of Colleyville

Sun Sep 27, 2009 - Mayor Mr. David Kelly  and the city council members of the city of Colleyville, Texas have passed  a proclamation that the 27th day of Sep 2009 as Smt. Purendeswari’s day at the luncheon organized by North America Telugu Society (NATS).  The proclamation also appreciated the services provided by NATS.

Smt. Purandeswari was the chief guest for the luncheon and the Gandhi Jayanti food drive organized by NATS - North Texas team where more than 300 Telugus attended.

Telugu legends Shri P.V. Narashmia Rao, Shri N.T. Rama Rao and Shri Y.S. Rajashekara Reddy were also honored at the event. Smt.Purandeswari handed over the food colleted by NATS to Major Green (who is the Commading Officer of the largest social service center in the USA) from Salvation Army. Major Green was highly appreciative of NATS and the Telugu community’s generosity for conducting the food drive. He hoped that organizations like NATS would continue to do this every year.
 
The mayor of city of Colleyville David Kelly, acknowledged that it was honor for him to receive a dignitary like Smt. Purendeswari’s in Colleyville. In recognizing Smt. Purendeswari’s commitment to public service and as Minister of State for Human Resources and Higher Education for India he along with council of members declared that the 27 th day of September 2009 as Purendeswari’s day for the city of Colleyville.

In appreciating the food drive conducted by NATS Smt.Purendeswari talked about Gandhi’s principles of selfless service and reminded everyone of their obligation to help others with what ever they can afford.

While remembering the three Telugu legends, Smt.Purendeswari recalled her father Sri NT. Rama Rao as a great hero and said that Sri PV. Narashmia Rao is like a father figure to her and felt as close a sister to YS Rajashekar Reddy.
