Hyderabad: A month ago, they pocketed hefty pay cheques as software professionals with multi-national companies (MNCs), but with recession and a quirk of fate they run a tiffin centre at Sanatnagar. Pink slips have forced them to trade keyboards for cups and saucers.
When media visited the tiffin centre, the four techies, aged between 25 and 30, were busy dishing out piping idlis, dosas and other dishes. They have not lost hope, but are toiling hard to survive on a day-to-day basis. Also, they have not abandoned their quest for better-paying jobs.
The four techies—S Ravi Shankar, K Siddharth, P Harinath and T Surender Reddy (names changed)—hail from Coastal Andhra and came to the city last year and got employed in MNCs.
S Ravi Shankar’s sister has been running the tiffin centre at Sanatnagar for the past one year. “Now, we have taken over the responsibility to run the tiffin centre. We will do these odd jobs till we get regular employment in our related field,” Ravi shankar told media.
“It is dignity of labour. I have experience in cooking. I can make sambar and several curries. That is why I have become a cook,” K Siddhartha said.
“We started working at the eatery 20 days ago. We took a break for ‘Sankranti’ and visited our native place. We returned to the city two days ago,” he said.
T Surender Reddy, who worked as programme head at an MNC said, “This job is temporary. We are searching for new jobs. We have chosen to run the tiffin centre to extend help to our friend’s sister and also to survive in the city.” On recession, Surender said, “It is an unfortunate thing. I had planned to settle down after getting a break in an MNC. I had even planned to get married this summer, but my plans have turned upside down. The lives of techies have turned pathetic.”
