Ever since the shocking defeat of TDP in the general election and the hard to digest reality that they have to sit for another five years in opposition, TDP has started negative campaign against JP and LokSatta.
Apparently the reason for their frustration is that at many places TDP candidates lost with a slight margin and Lok Satta candidates in those constituencies gained considerable votes that could have changed the fortunes if they had gone into TDP kitty. Though PRP and LOK Satta both have done the damage to TDP in the election, TDP feels that PRP with its low morale after the election cannot be any threat to TDP in future. However Lok Satta with its rising popularity in the educated class they think as along term threat. Adding to that both TDP and Lok Satta share the common vote bank of middle class educated circles.
Even though only lower rung leaders are involved in the negative campaign of TDP, it must be happening at the approval of their supremo Chandra Babu. There could be some reality in the TDP's analysis about Lok Satta damging their fortunes, but in their attempt to tarnish the image of JP it seems like TDP is committing suicide. Though some people who voted for Lok Satta would have voted for TDP otherwise, there were several voters who believed in Lok Satta's ideals and JP's clean image but still voted for TDP as they thought TDP is the only alternative for Cong in AP. By attacking on Lok Satta instead of the ruling party, TDP is losing its identity as an alternative force for Congress in the state.
Chandra Babu should realize that it is not PRP or Lok Sata that caused the defeat of TDP, but his failure to bring the message of ruling party's corruption, failure in handling alliances in the coalition and changing policies to grab power that caused the defeat. After all if one tries to spit at the sky, ultimately it will fall on their own faces.
