Dear TANA Governing Board members:
We are very unhappy with the current state of affairs in our beloved organization.
TANA being a non-profit, tax-exempt community organization should be open and transparent. Instead the organization is controlled in a secretive fashion with a few ring leaders keeping the plans and information hidden. TANA was not responsive to the comments and concerns of its membership. This cavalier attitude led a few concerned members to take TANA to court to get access to membership records and financial information that was supposed to be open and readily available. Initially you did not even inform the membership about this lawsuit and later you tried to mislead them by giving erroneous information.
Some TANA leaders are using the organization to satisfy their selfish personal and political objectives. TANA is engaged in internal power skirmishes and mismanagement of resources. Your action to move the 2009 TANA Conference from Florida to Chicago and the resulting $175,000 penalty perplexed and confused the Telugu community in North America questioning your motives. Failed attempts by TANA well wishers to unify our community by holding one national conference confirmed the disingenuous efforts of the power brokers. You have no respect for common sense, logic, or tradition. People no longer have any trust or confidence in the TANA leadership.
We are saddened and angered by your actions that are leading to the disqualification of nearly 10,000 duly enrolled TANA members with malice and under the guise of membership verification. TANA managed and manipulated the membership data and online enrollment process to the advantage of some current members of the Governing Board. TANA has no right to deny the membership of anyone that followed the procedure spelled out at the time of their application. You have to follow the Bylaws and resolutions in place and it is highly improper to add questionable requirements later. Any irregularities must be resolved by an independent group and not by people with an interest in the upcoming elections. In your judgment everyone that applied for their parents or children and anyone that moved to a different address is a suspect. Your actions have angered the new members and with disgust they chose not to send in unnecessary documents demanded by TANA. Telugu community clearly labeled your unjustified verification efforts as grossly unfair. You have deposited their membership fees in your operating account and decided to question their status a year later. You have provided no services to them. You ruined the honor and prestige of TANA.
You have not required office bearers in TANA to avoid conflicts of interest. Leaders who should know better kept quiet during the internal fights and public clashes instead of stepping in and straightening the situation. You collectively failed in your fiduciary duty to protect the interests of the general membership of the organization.
You are closing nominations even before you have a certified membership list. Conducting elections under these unjust and disgraceful conditions is a big joke. TANA has become a laughing stock in the Indian community. As a result TANA has become irrelevant to the Telugu community in North America. After serving this organization for so long it hurts us to see it go down the drain in this fashion.
So we along with all our friends in the Telugu community have decided to not contest in the upcoming, meaningless TANA elections.
Yours Truly,
