Nepal has plunged into chaos after the government’s fall, with violent protests claiming 19 lives and spiraling into lawlessness.
What began as demonstrations against a ban on 26 social media platforms has now become a violent uprising fueled by anger over corruption and misgovernance.
Amid the unrest, billionaire Upendra Mahato’s residence was looted and vandalised by a mob that reportedly mistook it for the home of politician Upendra Yadav.
Mahato, Nepal’s third-richest man with an estimated net worth of USD 250–900 million, currently resides in Moscow.
Videos circulating online show people breaking into his property, stealing valuables, and destroying belongings.
The violence has not been limited to Mahato’s home. Protesters have attacked politicians, torched businesses, and looted supermarkets in cities such as Kathmandu and Pokhara.
With mobs acting uncontrolled, the protests have taken the shape of a full-scale public revolt, leaving Nepal in a state of anarchy.
