Dr. JayaPrakash Narayan(JP) of Lok Satta Party was in Boston ,USA on may 4th to 6th 2010, to talk about rejuvenating India. He is joined by Mr. Vijay Anand, Tamilnadu Lok Satta president, during this visit. ‘Rejuvenate India’ campaign was kick started by Dr.JP with a talk at MIT, Boston. This was followed by discussions at events organized by People For Lok Satta (PFL) at Connecticut and Boston.
Manasa from PFL Boston introduced Dr.JP to the audience at MIT which comprised of students and working professionals. Dr.JP reminisced his experiences with MIT while talking about the current education system in India and the need for reforms. While his short speech held everyone spellbound, Dr JP chose to interact more and spent more than an hour for Q&A Session. Answering a question, Dr JP called for an action to strengthen the democratic institutions in India and to establish best practices in the government sector so as to streamline the services to the common man and cut down Bureaucracy and Red Tapism.
At Connecticut, Vinod Bandi mentioned about 130 people gathered to hear Dr. JP. Ratnakar Pandugayala exclaimed such an audience after work on weekday in Connecticut pleasantly surprised everyone in the hall. Again Dr.JP favored interaction to elaborate speeches. Answering a question he explained the weakness of current federal system and stressed the importance of empowering the local bodies for rejuvenating India.
The saga continued at a meeting in Needham, an overwhelming 230 plus NRI’s attended on a weekday. While speeches of Dr.JP inspired audience, the enthusiasm of audience inspired Dr.JP. There was mutual appreciation between Dr.JP and the audience. Wide ranging questions was asked on topics like Telangana, Corruption, Brain Drain, Democratic systems. Vijay Anand shared his experiences while he was an AID (Association for India’s development) volunteer and how NRIS can contribute to the development of India.
Dr. JP while describing the Role of NRI’s in Rejuvenating India, explained how since pre-independence days till recent tech revolution how the NRI’s played an active role. Today NRI’s who has seen various societies of the world can promote good things back in India. He mentioned how NRI’s can play bridge between India and the rest of the world and how they are the true brand ambassadors of India.
Jagadish Gattu, a volunteer in Boston, described Dr. JP’s energy as infectious. Sameer and Satish helped large number of attendees registered to become PFL volunteers. Attendees were extremely happy to have such an intimate discussion with torch bearer of progressive Indian politics.
