Kiran wakes up to Tri-Valley fraud

As hundreds of students of the fraud-hit Tri-Valley University in the United States face imminent deportation, Andhra Pradesh government has urged the Centre to urgently take up the matter with American authorities.

The Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has requested the Ministry of External Affairs to pursue the matter with the US government for giving all possible assistance to students affected by the closure of the San Francisco-based University.

Reddy also wrote a letter to External Affairs Minister S M Krishna to render all possible assistance through diplomatic missions in Washington and San Francisco in issuing visas to the affected students who approach them.

About 95 percent of the 1,555 students of Tri-Valley university are from India, predominantly from Andhra Pradesh.

A statement from Chief Minister's Office said that due to closure of the university, a majority of Indian students have lost their academic courses and money. The affected students and their families can contact the NRI cell at the state secretariat in Hyderabad for further information and help. The telephone number is 040-23220603.

According to reports reaching here, the Indian students are also being interrogated by immigration and customs enforcement department officials on charges of illegal immigration.

The US authorities have declared Tri-Valley as a sham University for immigration fraud.
