IT companies for Vizag, thanks to T-stir

The ongoing Telangana agitation and the resulting political uncertainity in the state seems to have made the big IT companies to look towards Visakhapatnam as the most favoured investment destination.

Several IT majors including IBM, Microsoft and Cognizant are eyeing on Visakhapatnam, because of availability of high quality manpower and availability of excellent infrastructure. On Friday, global IT major Microsoft signed a memorandum of understanding with Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, on providing latest software solutions to the students pursuing engineering courses in IT. The Microsoft representatives also indicated that they were exploring the possibilities of expanding their business activities in the city.

A couple of days ago, a team of officials from another IT major IBM, USA, had a two-day visit to Visakhapatnam and interacted with IT professionals, students, academicians of Andhra University, Gandhi Institute of Technology And Management (GITAM) and other high profile institutions to work out the possibility of setting up a software development centre in Visakhapatnam. The team also interacted with district administration about securing the logistic support from the government, besides the infrastructure availability for setting up their office.

The IT companies are looking forward to is the support from the government in the form of land at concessional rate, tax exemptions and power supply for their growth in Visakhapatnam.
