Politician-turned-television anchor Parakala Prabhakar, has been appointed as the official spokesman of Prajya Rajyam Party. The soft spoken, smart looking intellectual, is continuing his ETV’s programme — Pratidhwani, a show he has been hosting for the last couple of years. He was with the BJP as the official spokesperson, earlier.
Prabhakar has been indirectly associated with Chiranjeevi for quite some time even before the latter planned to enter politics. His father late Parakala Seshavataram, a minister in the Congress government in the past, had been a close friend of Chiranjeevi’s father-in-law Allu Ramalingaiah. Amidst his busy schedule with visitors and party workers at his office Prabhakar talked to Deccan Post in an exclusive interview.
What made you to join Chiranjeevi?
I believe that the kind of platform that Chiranjeevi is trying to build will usher in a comprehensive change in State politics. I consider him as the much-needed change agent in this scenario. The other political parties have not been able to make much of a headway. I feel that Chiranjeevi has the right mix of ideas and popular support to bring in the change. Not only the change of government but also, social representative change. I mean changing the composition of the legislature and other government structure.
What was wrong with the BJP?
I would not like to comment on the BJP as such. Three years ago, I severed ties with the party.
Will you continue with the ETV?
I am not an employee of ETV. I am doing current affairs discussions. I do it for elevating the public discussion level. It gives me an opportunity to meet a large number of people from all walks of life including academic, trade and industry, science and technology etc. It is very rich educative experience for me. I have gained a quite a lot from that. Continuing with Pratidhwani depends on time that I can spare in due course and what would be the demand from my party.
Will you contest in the forth coming polls?
I am not very sure. It’s collective decision of the party. I have no particular ambition. Getting into one House or official position is not the priority. As of now we are building the party and taking the message to the masses.
How do you foresee the future polls?
Praja Rajyam would sweep the Assembly and the Lok Sabha seats. We will establish a good government in the state and play a very significant role in Parliament.
Will Praja Rajyam contest all the 294 seats on its own?
That is the idea of sweeping the polls.
Will you align with the Communists or the TDP?
We have not applied our minds on this. It is too early to say.
What is your stand on separate Telengana?
Chiranjeevi spelt it out in the meeting at Tirupati. It will be as per the people’s aspirations. People are questioning about the expenditure of Tirupathi meet. Only a dais and some infrastructure. We have not rented the crowds. Not much of expenditure.
What will be your election plank?
Election plank is comprehensive change, social, economical and political. Empowering these sections which have been neglected for decades in our society.
