A 25-year-old from Mysuru doing master’s in computer science at California State University in San Bernardino was shot dead by an unidentified assailant on Thursday (US time).

Abhishek Sudhesh Bhat had a part-time job at a motel and was attacked while returning home from work.

He is the son of Sudhesh Chand, a yoga guru and founder of Sri Upanishath Yoga Centre Trust in Kuvempunagar, Mysuru.

The family is yet to receive any official report from the Indian embassy in the US. Sudhesh has been running the yoga centre for the past 16 years.

Police looking at CCTV clip to identify Indian student’s killer

Abhishek’s cousin, Srivatsa, said that the former had studied engineering at Vidhya Vikas Engineering College in Mysuru before leaving for the US two years ago.

Srivatsa said a friend of Abhishek, who also works in the same motel, informed his family members that their son had been shot dead by an attacker.

One of the family members said CCTV cameras near the motel had captured the attack and the US police were trying to ascertain the identity of the attacker. The California state university principal is said to have spoken to Abhishek’s parents.

On Facebook, Abhishek had said he had been appointed as a teaching assistant to Dr Ernesto Gomez at the California State University, San Bernardino College of Natural Sciences, from October 31.
