Four members of an Indian-origin family, including a prominent retired doctor, were tragically killed in a car crash in the United States while en route to a temple in West Virginia over the weekend.
Among the victims was 89-year-old anesthesiologist Dr. Kishore Divan, a long-time resident of Williamsville, New York. Also killed in the accident were his wife, Asha Divan, and two others—Shailesh Divan and Gita Divan—all believed to be in their 80s.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact relationship between the two couples, though they shared a surname and frequently appeared together in social media photos.
The family was traveling to Prabhupada’s Palace of Gold, a spiritual monument located in the New Vrindaban community of West Virginia. It honors Srila Prabhupada, founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
Dr. Divan was a respected medical professional affiliated with Kaleida Health-Buffalo General Medical Center.
A graduate of Kasturba Medical College in Manipal (Class of 1962), he completed his residency at the University at Buffalo in 1972.
According to online profiles, he had a distinguished career in anesthesiology and was deeply rooted in the Buffalo community.
Dr. Divan was also actively involved with local Hindu temples and organizations, particularly the Hindu Cultural Society of Western New York, where he played a key role in community service and temple administration.
