The entire nation stayed indoor on Sunday, following a call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Staying in isolation and maintaining social distance is good attempt to control the spread of virus. But the point is what else the government did to prevent its entry into the nation?
The much-talked about Swacch Bharat of Narendra Modi remained a slogan for the first five years of the Modi’s term. In fact, it was an old scheme of the Nirmal Abhiyan of the UPA government, which was redesigned for Modi with Mahatma Gandhi’s image drawn. The campaign was successful and not the scheme.
The hospitals in India remain unattended by the successive governments. They suffer heavily due to lack of basic medicine and the treatment to several diseases and ailments.
The health sector is the neglected lot over the years, while the hospitals in the private sector make a fast buck. The corporate hospitals have been making huge profits as the government hospitals are ignored and neglected.
Keeping the health of the hospitals aside for the time being, one wonders why was the government silent to the spread of the corona virus, when the word of caution came from China as early as February.
China, where the virus was started, failed to alert the world about this dangerous disease. The countries across the world too have ignored it. The scientists and the experts seems to be on sleeping mode without cautioning the world about this dreadful disease.
India too remained silent and watched China building a 1000-bed hospital in 10 days in February. China had noticed the virus in January itself and had prepared the hospital to treat the patients, first at Wuhan, where the virus was reported first.
We, in India, like most of the countries, took the virus so light that we washed off our hands by creating a caller tune for the mobile phones on giving precautions about the virus. But the dreadful virus had entered the nation by then through the international passengers.
India allowed the passengers to import the virus and now paying the price. While we have to admit our failure in the health sector, the nation honored the Prime Minister and remained indoor all through the day, hoping to break the spread of the virus from person to person.
