Hyderabad: An Indian was declared the 10 millionth visitor to Singapore this year at the Changi Airport on Saturday. The lucky man is Sanjeev Bhandari who hails from Hyderabad.
As Singapore achieved a new milestone for its tourism sector, Bhandari arrived by a Singapore Airlines flight from Hyderabad at Singapore’s Changi Airport early Saturday morning to a surprise welcome organised by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
Bhandari is visiting Singapore for a holiday. He was accompanied by wife Geeta Bhandari, son Karan and daughter Hiya, a release from the STB said here.
They were given a warm welcome by an entourage of performers showcasing Singapore’s blend of rich culture.
Bhadari has won for himself and his family members exciting prizes, which includes complimentary stays at the Shangari La Singapore.
Over the years, India has become an important source of tourism in Singapore and 51 per cent of all arrivals are from India. Among them, Hyderabad has registered double-digit growth in the last five years.
This year’s achievement of ten million visitors surpasses last year’s record of 9.7 million visitors, continuing an upward trend from 2004, the release said. (PTI)
